Abstract
To inhibit early fruit drop, branch girdling, GA paste application on fruit stalk and aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) spray on leaves and fruits were performed in 5- and 9-year-old ¢¥Sekaiichi¢¥/M26 apple trees. Branch girdling 1 week after full bloom (AFB) and GA paste application 2 and 3 weeks AFB greatly inhibited early fruit drop and accelerated young fruit growth. AVG spray also inhibited early fruit drop, but it seemed to inhibit young fruit growth slightly. Treatment 2 weeks AFB was more effective in drop inhibition compared to 3 weeks AFB treatment. The number of seeds per fruit was more reduced in GA paste treated fruits compared to AVG and girdling treated fruits.
